Another Hot One Today

Hello everyone!

Today will once again feature heat and humidity as a massive ridge of high pressure sits overhead. Skies are mainly sunny this morning, and will remain that way through the afternoon hours allowing for plenty of daytime heating. Look for temps to rise into the low to mid 90’s for most, with mid to upper 80’s for the typical cooler locations along the coast and in the mountains.  Dew points within a few degrees of 70 (typically regarded as the threshold for “oppressive” humidity) will once again make today’s heat feel even worse than it already is, especially in southern areas. Today will remain mostly dry, with late day shower/storm chances highest in the mountains.

Thankfully, today will be the last day of full heat and humidity as a strong cold front approaches the region tomorrow morning. Showers and storms ahead of the front will begin late this evening in the mountains, and will expand southeast towards the coast tomorrow morning. Depending on the amount of sunshine that coastal areas can get before the front arrives tomorrow, storms may be severe with damaging winds the primary threat. However, even if minimal sunshine occurs and storms remain generally below severe limits, frequent lightning and heavy rain will pose threats until the front clears the coast early tomorrow afternoon. Dew points will fall to “glorious” levels by Saturday, with values in the 40’s expected region-wide. The countdown is on!
