Cold today, January thaw ahead

Hello everyone!

Cold temps will lead headlines today into tomorrow. Highs will run in the 10’s or 20’s with continued blustery west winds. Wind chills will likely be near or below 0. Mostly sunny conditions will dominate the skies today with any clouds coming from Lake Ontario in the form of long gone lake effect bands. Looking ahead, a tragic event is coming up: the January thaw. Temps look to be in the 40’s for 5+ days with rain Saturday and Monday at the least. Sadly, most of the snow pack will melt along the coast. Another area of concern will be rivers-all the runoff could cause flooding problems. I see no major snow in sight and no sign of a pattern shift that would bring more substantial snow chances.
