A Bit Warmer and A Bit Brighter Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature slightly warmer temps and slightly brighter skies, especially this morning, as an ocean storm to our east slowly loosens its grip on our area. Morning sunshine will push temps into the mid 40s up north and mid/upper 50s in the south by midday. That will support some increased cloud cover during the afternoon thanks to cooler air aloft. Northerly breezes will continue to be noticeable, though won’t be as strong as in recent days.

Cool and Unsettled Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature cool temps and unsettled weather as a storm remains stalled out to our east. Look for breezy north/northwest winds to continue carrying cool air into the region with highs ranging from the upper 30s in the north to around 50 along the NH/MA border. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with the best odds of sunshine in the south and west. Most of us will stay mostly dry today, but showers are possible especially in the mountains and points northeast of Brunswick as a weak disturbance pivots around the offshore storm this afternoon.

Clearing Out Today

Hello everyone!

As yesterday’s storm departs to the northeast, we’ll be clearing out today. Northwest winds will set the tone with the usual upslope/downslope pattern of mountain clouds and cooler temps (mid to upper 30s) while the coastal plain enjoys mostly sunny skies and warmer temps (mid 40s to low 50s). Some leftover flurries are possible in the mountains especially this morning, but no accumulation of note is expected.

Strong Spring Storm Soaks Some Today

Hello everyone!

Today’s weather will be provided courtesy of a strong spring storm moving up the CT Valley. That track will place us on the warm side of the system so any snow will be confined to the mountains and interior foothills. Accumulations of a slushy inch or two are possible before a changeover to sleet/ice and then rain in the coming hours.

The storm’s dry slot is already advancing from the southwest, meaning that there isn’t much more heavy precip on the way for parts of southern NH. Heavy rain will continue in parts of Maine, especially along the midcoast from Brunswick to Belfast. Another inch or more of rain is possible here. The other big story will be the gusty southeast winds especially along the coast and in the mountains. Gusts well over 50mph have already been observed and will continue for the next couple hours as the storm intensifies. This has already led to some power outages and more are quite possible before winds die down midday.

As dry air continues to work into the region this afternoon, some breaks of sun will emerge especially in NH. This will help push temps into the upper 40s to low 50s before colder air arrives on gusty southwest winds. some additional showers are possible this afternoon as daytime heating provides some instability under the pocket of colder air aloft.

Mild and Quiet Today

Hello everyone!

Though we got a cold front to pass through the region last night, today will actually be much nicer than yesterday as the maritime airmass is long gone having been chased out by southwesterly breezes. Those breezes will continue today, pushing the coastal plain into the low to mid 60s. Slightly cooler temps will be found in the mountains and along the midcoast (mid to upper 50s). Skies will be mostly sunny after some high clouds depart the coast this morning. Some additional clouds will arrive from the west this afternoon, especially in the mountains, but most of the day should be bright for most people. Those clouds may end up dropping a few raindrops by around sunset especially in the mountains but as with the sun, most people should remain dry for most of the day.

Chilly and Gray Today

Hello everyone!

We get a few of these days every spring and early summer here in northern New England. The forecast calls for sunshine and low to mid 80s in Connecticut, 70s in central MA, and afternoon thunderstorms in Burlington VT. But us? We’re drawing our air straight from the Gulf of Maine behind a shallow but potent backdoor cold front that snuck in from the northeast yesterday. That means low clouds, patchy fog, drizzle, and temps in the low to mid 40s for most of the area. Thunderstorms forming to our west will approach the area this evening, but will run into the brick wall of stable maritime air and should fall apart quickly after crossing the CT river. There will be some leftover showers though, arriving in western NH around 4-5 PM before moving into Maine closer to sunset.

Mild Start, Turning Cooler and Unsettled Later

Hello everyone!

A few thin clouds are streaming across the region this morning, but otherwise the day will start on the brighter side for most of us, especially north and east. The early-day sunshine and southerly breezes will push temps into the low to mid 60s outside of the mountains (mid/upper 50s) and Midcoast (low 50s). Clouds will be thickening as the morning goes on though, and by noon, some showers will be trying to work into the mountains. Showers will expand in coverage during the afternoon, though will generally stay north of a Portland ME – Plymouth NH line.

South of that boundary, marking the location where a backdoor cold front will emerge this afternoon, temps will climb even higher into the low 70s under partly cloudy skies. North of the front though, winds will flip around to the northeast and temps will fall into the 40s under thick clouds. Showers and thunderstorms will be developing upstream of our area over Ontario and Quebec, and their remnants will arrive with heavier rain and possibly a rumble or two after dark.

Morning Showers Give Way to a Lovely Afternoon Today

Hello everyone!

Rain is falling across much of the region this morning, as it will continue to do for the next couple hours as a cold front approaches from the west. The steadiest rain is actually yet to come and will arrive in the next hour or two in the mountains before proceeding towards the coast by late morning.

Behind the front though, this afternoon looks delightful. Skies will clear and downsloping NW breezes will push temps into the low to mid 60s across much of the area including the coast. The mountains will stay a bit cooler in the low to mid 50s.

Mild and Sunny Today

Hello everyone!

Today looks like a great day to be outside in Northern New England. Skies will be clear (after a few morning upslope clouds burn off), winds will be light out of the northwest shifting to southwest, and temps will be mild. Look for highs ranging from the upper 40s up in the mountains to the mid 60s in southern NH. A late afternoon sea breeze may knock temps down a bit right along the Maine shoreline especially east of Brunswick. Overall though, it’s going to be a great day at least as far as the weather is concerned!

Quiet Morning, Unsettled Afternoon Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature quiet weather during the morning with partly to mostly sunny skies downwind of the mountains. As the sunshine heats the lower levels of the atmosphere, pushing high temps into the mid to upper 50s along the coast, instability will develop and clouds will gradually fill back in. Some of these clouds could drop some brief showers, falling in the form of rain along the coast, snow in the mountains, and a mix in between. Showers will diminish in coverage and intensity around sunset.
