Back To The Clouds Today With Showers For Some

Hello everyone!

Today will feature a return to our grey pattern as high pressure shifts offshore, and the next front approaches from the west. Look for morning sunny breaks to slowly be obscured by increasing cloud cover this afternoon. Dry weather this morning will give way to some afternoon showers in the north/mountains though it won’t be until tomorrow that a wider part of the area has a decent shot at rain. High temps will range from a little below 40 in the north to a little above 50 in the south.

Clearing Out For Some Today

Hello everyone!

Our recent cloudy pattern is finally coming to an end for those outside of the mountains today as northwesterly winds set up our favorite upslope/downslope pattern. Look for morning drizzle along the midcoast to quickly clear out in the next couple hours with sunny skies developing. Aside from those early morning sprinkles and a few flurries in the mountains, no precip is expected today. Temps will range from 30 in the north to 45 in the south.

Another Cool, Overcast, And Showery Day Today

Hello everyone!

Our cool, overcast, and dreary stretch will continue today as another round of low pressure passes overhead. The rain associated with this system is already moving into the area this morning, and will continue through this afternoon. Overall, rain will be fairly spotty, with more areas being dry than wet at any given time. The heaviest rain will occur along the coastal plan during the afternoon hours.

By evening, the low will be moving NE, rain will be ending, and developing westerly winds should bring clearing to southwestern parts of the area. High temps will range from a little above 40 in the mountains to a little above 50 along the coast.

Overcast With A Side Of Drizzle Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature an abundance of low clouds and drizzle as low level moisture sticks around while upper level moisture races away to the NE. While this drizzle won’t amount to a whole lot in terms of rainfall amounts, it will make today’s weather less than awesome by most people’s definition. Highs will range from 35 in the mountains to 55 along the midcoast. Skies will remain mostly overcast, with some of those low clouds making it to the surface in the form of fog this morning.

Rain Arrives Today, Starts As Snow Away From The Coast

Hello everyone!

Rain will arrive from south to north today as low pressure moves up the coast in our direction. Expect this rain to begin as snow in the foothills/mountains this afternoon. Accumulations will range from little/nothing in the foothills to several inches in the mountains. Snow will quickly transition to rain in the foothills this afternoon, with a slower changeover to freezing rain expected in the mountains by tonight. Watch precip arrive with our weather.us radar imagery if you’re interested through the day today.

As for precip onset, rain has started now in SW NH, it will arrive in the Portland area a little after noon, and will make it up to the northern mountains by early evening.

As the storm system gets closer, look for NE winds to pick up, particularly along the coastline. Look for 30-50 mph gusts along the immediate coast, with much weaker winds inland. These winds may be strong enough for some localized power outages, but no major/widespread problems are expected.

Temps will be slowly rising today, topping out around 30 in the mountains, between 35 and 40 for most of the foothills, and near 50 along the immediate coast by this evening. Skies will be entirely overcast except perhaps for a few brief breaks of sun in far NE areas this morning.

A Bit Sunnier Today

Hello everyone!

The cool temps and NW breezes of recent days will continue today, but as high pressure builds closer to the region from the NW, we’ll be looking for somewhat sunnier skies, especially downwind of the mountains. That sunshine will last though much of the day, before clouds advance again this evening ahead of our next storm system. Look for high temps ranging from the low/mid 30’s in the north to the low/mid 40’s in the south. No precipitation is expected today outside of some morning upslope flurries.

Another Fairly Chilly Day Today

Hello everyone!

We’ll continue our fairly chilly stretch today as the core of the cold airmass in the wake of yesterday’s storm moves overhead. Look for high temps ranging from 25 in the north to around 40 at the coast. Fairly clear skies are observed this morning outside the mountains, but unfortunately we’ll shift towards slightly cloudier skies towards the early afternoon hours as a weak disturbance moves through aloft. The region will remain dry today under the influence of Canadian high pressure.

Morning Rain And Snow Wraps Up This Afternoon

Hello everyone!

Rain and snow associated with a developing coastal storm to our east will continue impacting the region this morning, especially in eastern areas closer to the system’s center. Bands of rain and snow will continue to pivot south, with some of the rain in the foothills and over interior parts of the midcoast potentially briefly changing over to snow as some stronger dynamics move in aloft. Several inches of additional accumulation are expected where temps are below freezing up in the mountains, but closer to the coast, any flip to snow is likely to be brief, and won’t amount to more than a dusting.

High temps will range from 35 in the north to 45 in the south under mainly cloudy skies. Though a few breaks of sun are possible downwind of the mountains right around sunset.

Developing Coastal Low To Bring Rain And Snow Today

Hello everyone!

Tis the season for discussions of rain and snow, along with developing coastal storms. A system is moving through the Great Lakes this morning, and it will redevelop off the New England coast this evening. Rain and snow can be expected as a result, with snow totals approaching the 6″ mark in the higher terrain near Sugarloaf (northeastern areas). Even areas that don’t see snow will see overcast skies, chilly temps, and north/northeasterly breezes as this system moves through.

Radar shows light snow already ongoing in the mountains from Berlin New Hampshire up to Dover-Foxcroft Maine. This light precipitation will linger through much of the morning, with accumulations possibly reaching 1″ by midday. The rest of the area will remain dry until a little after noon.

A line of steadier showers, potentially even including a rumble of thunder, will move into Western NH around noon, and will bring an increase in precipitation rate. This heavier rain will arrive in Maine by the early evening hours. As the storm develops over Downeast Maine, snow will continue to fall in the Mountains, especially those mountains farther north and east, tonight.

High temps will range from 35 in the north to 50 along the coast.

Another Day On The Cooler Side Today

Hello everyone!

Today will be another day on the cooler side as we still have winds a little north of west associated with high pressure centered near Raleigh NC. This ridge will crest over the area tonight, with southwesterly flow developing for tomorrow. With WNW flow today though, we’ll be looking for more upslope mountain clouds and snow showers, while areas downwind of the mountains see generally clearer skies. High temps will range from around 30 in the north to around 45 in the south.
