Hello everyone!

My apologies for the late update, it’s nice to forget to set an alarm every once in a while. Skies are sunny out there this morning, and for the most part that will continue through the rest of the day today. High temps will range from 15 in the north to 30 in the south. Clouds will become a bit more widespread later on this afternoon as our next weak storm system approaches from the west. That system will bring very light snow to the southern half of the area tomorrow, with accumulations remaining under 2″.

Today will feature more cool temps and quiet weather as our last storm system from yesterday has now departed off to the northeast. In its wake, light NW flow will result in a general upslope/downslope pattern with cloudier and cooler conditions in the mountains, and warmer/sunnier conditions along the coast. High temps will range from 20 in the north to 35 in the south, and no precip is expected.

We’re back to unsettled weather today as yet another storm system approaches from the west. This system will be on the weaker side, and will also be tracking to our west, putting us in the warmer half of the system. The result will be light to moderate rain at the coast, with snow in the foothills and mountains. The higher summits could pick up 4-6″ from this event, while lower elevations and points farther SE see a more general 1-3″. The southeastern foothills and the coastal plain will see mostly rain from this event as temps warm into the mid to upper 30’s. The mountains will see temps around 30-32 degrees. Precip departs this evening with drier weather moving in for tomorrow.

NW winds have developed behind yesterday’s storm system, which means we’re left with an upslope/downslope pattern. Air will rise on the NW side of the mountains cooling as it does so, and resulting in clouds and snow showers. That air then sinks heading down the SE side of the mountains, warms back up, and dries out which results in dry conditions and sunny skies. Thus northwestern areas can expect overcast skies, temps in the low 20’s, and scattered snow showers. The coastal plain will see sunny skies, temps in the mid 30’s, and dry weather while the foothills in between see a mix of sun and clouds, a slight chance for a brief flurry, and highs around 30.

Our next storm system arrives tomorrow with light rain in southern/coastal areas and moderate snow up in the mountains.

Today will feature the departure of last night’s storm as low pressure moves swiftly from Cape Cod into New Brunswick. The main part of the storm’s precipitation has already departed NH, and will be moving out of Maine in the next few hours. A band has developed on the storm’s back side in New York and may bring a period of light snow mid/late morning, but outside of the mountains not much accumulation is expected. In the mountains, an additional 1-3″ is expected from that band as well as some upslope that will continue through the afternoon/evening today.

Temps will be on the warmer side today, ranging from 25 in the north to 35 in the south. Skies will remain mostly cloudy except for the coastal plain which is likely to see at least a few sunny breaks later this afternoon.

Our next storm system will arrive Friday with light snow in the mountains and light rain along the coast.

Hello everyone!

Our latest winter storm will arrive later today, bringing with it a diverse blend of precipitation types. Before the system arrives, thickening clouds and cold temps can be expected as high pressure digs in to our north.

Snow will break out from SW to NE this afternoon. SW NH can expect flakes a little after 3 PM, with Maine’s snow waiting until later in the afternoon/evening. The evening commute will be snowy, especially south and west of Portland, but should be entirely doable if you’re careful.

Snow becomes heavier tonight, with rates of 1-2″ per hour expected across the area. Snow will change over to sleet in SW NH beginning around 10-11 PM, with the mix progressing NE early tomorrow morning. The far NW mountains have the best chance at remaining mostly snow, while the vast majority of the region sees at least a bit of mixed precipitation.

Sleet will change to freezing rain for parts of southern NH and SW ME very early tomorrow morning, with up to 1/4″ ice possible. This will be more than enough to cause slick travel conditions, but shouldn’t be enough to cause major power disruptions. A cold front will put an end to precip tomorrow morning.

Accumulations will range from over a foot up at Sugarloaf to 6″ in SE NH. Most of the region will see between 6 and 10″ before the change to sleet.

High pressure is getting set in place this morning ahead of our next storm system which will arrive tomorrow. Expect sunny skies in the northeastern part of the region today, with more clouds in the south and west. Winds will be light from the north, and temps will be seasonably cool ranging from 10 in the north to 30 in the south. Snow will arrive from SW to NE tomorrow afternoon/evening.

As for the storm, expect 3-6″ of snow region wide before a change to sleet/freezing rain in the foothills and along the coast. In the mountains, precip types should remain mostly or entirely snow with an additional 3-6″ falling through Wednesday morning.

Today will feature calm weather and seasonable temperatures as high pressure crests over the region. Temps will range from 15 in the north to 32 in the south under partly to mostly sunny skies. No precip is expected.

Our next storm will arrive Tuesday with moderate to heavy snow. Snow totals will be highest in the mountains, with some sleet holding accumulation down a bit along the coast.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature cool temps, mainly clear skies, and breezy NW winds as high pressure builds in from Canada. Highs today will range from 5 in the north to 25 in the south. Winds will of course be strongest at elevation with gusts well over hurricane force above 4,000 feet. Mount Washington gusted to 148 mph earlier this morning! For the rest of us, gusts in the 30-40 mph range are likely which shouldn’t cause any major issues.

Our next storm system is set to arrive Tuesday evening with snow for the entire area, potentially changing to a mix in the south. At this time a 4-8″ event seems like the most probably outcome, but of course that will shift around a bit as we get closer.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature the passage of a strong cold front which will bring our recent stretch of abnormally mild weather to an end. Showers are moving through the area ahead of that front this morning, falling as plain rain near the coast and freezing rain farther inland. Temperatures will be very slow to warm up in the foothills and mountains due to cold air damming this morning.

As the front passes though, expect a big jump in temps as the warm air just aloft gets mixed down to the surface before getting swept east by the incoming front. This jump will occur just after noon, and will result in temps getting up into the mid to upper 40’s across the region (south of Route 2). Temps will quickly fall back below freezing tonight as breezy NW winds transport a colder airmass into the region.
