I’m a third-year atmospheric science student at Cornell University who has been blogging about the weather since 2011. While I’m not officially a meteorologist, I have accumulated a bit of experience forecasting both local weather (in western Maine and New Hampshire) as well as national/international weather during my time writing for weather.us and weathermodels.com. I also have experience programming in Python, teaching concepts in weather forecasting, and communicating forecast information to general audiences.

Warmth Sticks Around Today One Last Time

Hello everyone!

Today will feature spring’s last stand (for now) as a cold front moves offshore. Behind the front, winds will turn westerly and downslope off the mountains leading to warming temps and sunny skies (for more on that, check out my article in the December issue of UpPortland). Look for highs in the 50’s south and 40’s north. An ocean storm develops to our south and moves NE tonight bringing a period of light to moderate snow at the coast, especially the farther east you go towards the midcoast. A general coating-2″ is expected along the coast with an isolated 3″ amount possible in the Camden Hills.

Cold air and many a storm threat arrive next week, this is winter after all!

Warm, Windy, And Rainy Today With A Dash Of Winter Up North

Hello everyone!

Today will feature rain for most, especially SE, while northern areas see a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain before switching briefly to rain. Highs down south will rise into the 40’s to near 50 while highs in the north will remain trapped around 35. Snow near Sugarloaf could accumulate to around 6″ with lesser amounts to the south. Up to a quarter inch of freezing rain is also possible before brief rain. Down south, everything looks to fall as rain with a half to one and a half inches expected.

Don’t worry winter lovers, this is the slightly misplaced vanguard for what looks to be a sizeable arctic assault next week. This is winter in Maine after all!

Just A Bit Cooler Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature partly to mainly sunny skies along with slightly cooler temps. Look for highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s with the chance for a stray mountain flurry. There will be more clouds up north and thus temps look a bit cooler, in the low to mid 30’s.

Toasty Today

Hello everyone!

Low pressure will pass to our west today and that will leave us on the warm side of things as warm air drives northward on southerly winds. Look for a mix of sun and clouds with morning lows in the 30’s rebounding into the 40’s north and low 50’s south. Light precip this morning could fall into pockets of subfreezing air in the foothills and mountains so watch for isolated slick spots there.

Warmer And Cloudier Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature warmer air moving in on southerly winds as low pressure moves to our west. Look for highs in the mid to upper 30’s north and mid to upper 40’s south. All this warm air moving in will trigger clouds and I expect today to be partly to mostly cloudy region wide.

Cooler And Clearer Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature mainly sunny skies, light winds, and moderate temps. Look for highs in the upper 20’s to low 30’s north with low to mid 30’s south. Skies will start out mainly sunny but we could see a few clouds by the afternoon hours.

A Few Snow Showers Today

Hello everyone!
Today will feature mainly cloudy skies as a dying clipper passes over us and a coastal storm develops offshore. The coastal low will attempt to reach out to the clipper to help it out with some moisture and energy and that transfer will occur over us. As a result, look for snow showers possibly mixed with rain along the coast. Snow showers could briefly become a tad more organized with a weak Norlun trough but this is far too weak to be classified as a classic Norlun case. Highs will range from the upper 20’s north to the mid 30’s along the coast.

The Thaw Continues

Hello everyone!

Today will feature more mild weather as a punchy little storm moves in from the west. Look for highs in the low to mid 30’s north and mid to upper 30’s south under fading sun. The clipper crosses the area tonight and helps to foster cyclogenesis offshore tomorrow. I’m not currently too impressed with snow potential tomorrow but a general coating to as much as 3″ is possible with the highest amounts over the midcoast.

Another Mild Day As The January Thaw Rolls On

Hello everyone!

For those winter haters out there, today looks mild as a cold front approaches the region. Look for highs in the 40’s south and 30’s north with morning clouds and flurries/sprinkles giving way to at least partial sun in the afternoon especially downwind of the mountains.

Warmer And Cloudier Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature partly to mostly cloudy skies with warmer temps and the chance for some light precip. Look for highs in the low 30’s north to low 40’s south with sleet and snow showers north and sleet and rain showers south. Little to no accumulation is expected though roads could become slick especially in the north.
