I’m a third-year atmospheric science student at Cornell University who has been blogging about the weather since 2011. While I’m not officially a meteorologist, I have accumulated a bit of experience forecasting both local weather (in western Maine and New Hampshire) as well as national/international weather during my time writing for weather.us and weathermodels.com. I also have experience programming in Python, teaching concepts in weather forecasting, and communicating forecast information to general audiences.

A Quieter Day On The Way Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature calmer weather as our favorite upper low moves slowly east. Clouds will still be widespread but sun will be increasing through the day today from NW to SE. Highs will be warmest away from the coast as a stiff sea breeze develops this afternoon. Highs in the mountains and at the coast will be in the upper 50’s/low 60’s and away from the coast low to mid 60’s are likely with a few upper 60’s possible as well. Showers are unlikely today for the first time in quite a while.

Another Cool And Unsettled Day Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature more of the same weather-wise as an upper low continues to spin to our east. Expect highs in the 50’s north and 60’s south under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Showers are scattered about this morning and will continue through the day so some drops here and there are likely though not everyone will get wet.

Warmer and drier weather looks to move in for the weekend.

Cool And Showery Weather Continues

Hello everyone!

More cool and unsettled weather is on tap today as an upper low  continues to spin to our east. Expect more clouds, showers, cool temps, and breezy conditions today though in each aspect, today should be by and large better than yesterday. Nicest conditions will be found in SW areas today as they will be the farthest away from the upper low.

Warmer And Sunnier Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature morning clouds quickly giving way to sun this afternoon. Temps will warm as well with northern areas staying in the upper 40’s/low 50’s but southern areas rising all the way into the low 60’s. Today won’t be perfect though as north winds will become strong gusting over 25mph at times making the normally lovely temps feel quite a bit colder.

Slowly increasing sun and warming temps along with slowly relaxing winds will be the trend through the end of the week.

More Widespread Showers Today

Hello everyone!

Today will be almost exactly like the past week weather wise with cool temps, abundant clouds, and of course, showers. Today however will be different in one of those areas. A slightly stronger upper level disturbance will trigger some bonus showers today meaning everyone is likely to get wet at some point. Some showers could be heavy at times but are likely to be relatively short lived. Temps will once again be stuck in the 40’s for most, 50’s southern NH/SNE.

Fewer showers are in the forecast through midweek though there is the potential for a coastal low late week. Confidence is low at this point but it will be something to watch this week. As for extended warm/dry weather, it’ll likely show up sometime next week.

Cool And Unsettled Stretch Continues

Hello everyone!

Today will feature more cool and unsettled conditions with morning sun giving way to afternoon showers. The best chance for showers will be along the ME/NH border though everyone is at risk for some drops. A sea breeze will develop along the coast this afternoon so expect cooler temps there this afternoon. Highs will get up into the low to mid 40’s up north, mid to upper 40’s in the foothills, low to mid 50’s just inland from the coast, and upper 40’s to low 50’s along the immediate coastline.

Another Cool And Unsettled Day Today

Hello everyone!

We begin today with some light snow showers around the area, mainly in the mountains. Those will taper off this afternoon outside of the mountains which will allow for partial sun, again outside the mountains where cold cyclonic flow keeps upsloping in place. Partial sun with a cold pool aloft yields what we have seen pretty much every day this week: afternoon showers, some of which with small hail. This will be the case again today so keep the rain gear handy if you’re out and about today. Not everyone will get rained on but for those who do, it could be briefly heavy. Temps will be about 5 degrees warmer than yesterday; 30’s/low 40’s up north, 40’s/low 50’s at the coast.

Another Cool And Unsettled Day Today

Hello everyone!

Today will be almost a carbon copy of yesterday weather wise as an upper low sits and spins overhead. Expect sun this morning giving way to clouds and showers in the afternoon. The one big difference will be that showers will be fewer and farther between compared to yesterday though temps will remain stuck in the 40’s and 50’s once again. This looks to be our weather for the next little while as blocking over Greenland and Alaska ensure this low doesn’t go anywhere. Hope for a reprieve may arrive midweek according to some model solutions but according to others, another slow moving coastal storm is equally likely. Welcome to spring in Maine.

More Showery/Cool Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature cooler temps and more precip which is already underway up in the mountains where snow is falling this morning. More showers are expected this afternoon once daytime heating gets underway and in some of the heavier showers, sleet and graupel are likely given extremely low freezing heights. Highs today will range through the 40’s for the mountains and the foothills while the coast gets to enjoy some low 50’s. As for cloud cover, the mountains stay mostly cloudy while the coast sees more sun.

More unsettled weather is expected tomorrow.

Another Nice But Unsettled Day Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature morning sun fading away to afternoon clouds ahead of another storm headed our way this evening. Along with increasing clouds, the chance is there for a shower or two this afternoon and then some more intense storms this evening as the storm passes through. In some of these more intense storms, some small hail is possible in addition to heavy rain and lightning. Highs today will range from the low to mid 60’s in the warm spots to mid to upper 50’s at the coast and in the mountains.

More afternoon shower/storm activity is likely tomorrow and through the rest of the week.
