Warm And Dry Today

Hello everyone!

More boring weather is in the forecast for today as high pressure is firmly anchored just to our south. Look for mostly sunny skies with just a few high clouds visible during the eclipse which, at its peak, will result in 60% of the sun being covered by the moon. Highs are expected to rise into the 80’s region wide and no precipitation is expected.

Cool and Dreary Today

Hello everyone!

We’re going to get a taste of October here today as a warm front remains stubbornly to our south. High temps will rise to about 60 in the mountains and could get to 70 in far southern NH, but that’s it. Winds will be out of the southeast ahead of the warm front and you know what that means… cold air damming! Yep, that’s right! Cold air will be dammed up against the mountains today as warm air tries to push in from all sides. Low level northeasterly winds will lock the raw air in place. Sounds like a forecast from December doesn’t it!

Sadly, this cold air damming setup won’t bring us snow or sleet or ice, but it will bring much-needed rain to the coast as warm, incredibly moist air from the tropics surges north. Look for general rainfall amounts right around an inch with up to 2 inches possible in any localized downpours. Given that we’re stuck in the cold air damming pattern, severe weather is basically a no-go though a rumble or two is possible over southern areas as a little bit of elevated instability develops.

Enjoy the unseasonably awesome weather today! We’re back to our boring pattern by Sunday.

More Cool And Clear Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature mostly sunny skies, light to moderate NW breezes, and comfortable temperatures as high pressure builds into the region. Look for highs to range from the upper 60’s north to the upper 70’s south. Overall, a fairly quiet day today. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Warm And Dry Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature a pretty straightforward weather pattern- it’s one we’ve seen too many times to count. A cold front passed through overnight and thus we’re left with northwesterly winds today. You know what that means! Upslope/downslope! The mountains are reporting cloudy skies this morning and that will continue throughout the day while the coast enjoys full sun. Highs in the north will struggle to reach the 70 degree mark while highs in the south will soar into the low/mid 80’s. I can’t rule out a stray upslope shower in the mountains this afternoon but otherwise things look mostly dry.

Swells from Hurricane Gert will be arriving today from the SSE. The biggest waves will be at south facing beaches along the midcoast with smaller waves expected south of Portland. Beware of the rip current risk if you’re headed out to play in the waves.

Wetter Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature the chance for some wet weather as tropical moisture surging north from Hurricane Gert meets up with a weak cold front. First, I should note that Gert is receiving safely out to sea and will not directly impact any landmass. In any case, satellite imagery this morning indicates sunny skies are being observed across the north with cloudier skies across the south. This line will do a pretty good job at separating our weather for the day. In the north, sunshine will fuel showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Some of those storms could be fairly strong with gusty winds and small hail. Highs in the north will rise into the upper 70’s. In the south, cloudier skies will prevail as fog slowly burns off this morning. Lighter, steadier showers are possible as some weak energy drifts through the region and the best chance of that will be in southernmost areas in New Hampshire where showers are already ongoing this morning. Temps will be limited by clouds and onshore flow with highs in the lower 70’s.

Clearer weather is expected for tomorrow.

Quiet Weather Pattern Continues`

Hello everyone!

Remember yesterday’s weather? Well today’s is going to be the exact same, with one tiny exception. There won’t be any showers for anyone, even NE of Augusta where a few moved through this morning. Temps will rise into the 70’s north and low 80’s south under clear skies with light winds. Welcome to the snoozefest known as summer weather in Maine. Winter is coming soon, but not soon enough.

Warm and Dry Today

Hello everyone!

Apologies for the recent inactivity, vacation induced timezone differences prevented effective posting. I’m back now, just in time for the most boring weather pattern summer can deliver. Today kicks off that pattern. A cold front will sneak through early this morning and due to the low energy available in the atmosphere at that time of day, no thunderstorms are expected. NW breezes behind the front will bring warm, dry, and clear weather for tomorrow with temps rising into the low to mid 80’s south and upper 70’s north. Dry weather is expected to reign except potentially for a brief morning shower NE of Augusta as the cold front moves through just after sunrise.

Showers And Storms This Afternoon

Hello everyone!

Current observations show that we have some fog around this morning and that this fog is dense in places. Fog will slowly burn off this afternoon in places though it may remain locked in along the coast and especially along the midcoast. Exactly how fast and how much this fog burns off will determine how strong storms get this afternoon. The more sun you see this morning, the stronger you can expect your storms to be and vice versa. Storms will enter western New Hampshire a little after noon and will clear the midcoast a little after sunset. These storms could be strong to severe, depending on how much energy they can pick up from the sun. Temps today will range from near 80 in southern/western areas that have the best chance at sunshine to 70 along the midcoast.

More Mountain Showers/Storms Today

Hello everyone!

Remember yesterday’s weather? Today’s is going to look pretty similar. Storms will fire in the mountains this afternoon as things warm up. Onshore flow will keep the coast cooler and drier. Look for more highs in the low/mid 80’s inland and mid/upper 70’s along the coast. Once again, lightning and torrential rains are expected to be the main threats with the thunderstorms this afternoon. Skies will be mainly clear outside of the showers and storms.

More Showers And Thunderstorms This Afternoon

Hello everyone!

Remember yesterday’s weather? We had warm and humid temps as pop up showers and storms developed in the afternoon. Not everyone got storms but those who did got some gusty winds and small hail. The exact same thing is in store for today. Highs will range through the 80’s with high humidity. Showers and storms will develop in the afternoon and will weaken as the sun sets this evening. Much like yesterday, they will be slow-moving with heavy rain being the main threat along with lightning. Just like yesterday, a few stronger cells with damaging winds and small hail can’t be ruled out.
