Steep Temperature Drop Today As Strong Cold Front Blasts Through

Hello everyone!

Today will feature rapidly dropping temps and breezy NW winds as a strong cold front moves through the area. Temperature observations this morning show the front bisecting the area as of 8 AM, with temps along the coast ranging from 50 in Portland to 60 in SE NH, and temps in the mountains sitting in the low 20’s. As the morning rolls on, the front will move offshore, and temps will fall across the entire area. By this evening, temps will range from 0 in the north to 20 in the south. There’s an abundance of standing water out on the roads this morning from last night’s rain and snowmelt, and that will all freeze solid as temps plummet. As a result, watch for rapidly developing slippery travel especially on untreated roads. Rain, sleet, ice, and snow will continue to impact parts of the area this morning, especially the foothills and mountains, but will depart the area this afternoon as a wave of low pressure currently over MA moves towards the Canadian Maritimes.
