Nice Day In The North Today, More Unsettled For The South

Hello everyone!

A frontal boundary bisects the region this morning with cool and relatively dry air from Canada on the northern side, and muggier air from the Gulf of Mexico on the southern side. The best weather today will be farther to the north where temps will rise into the low to mid 70’s under partly to mostly sunny skies. Some clouds will filter in this afternoon, but no precip is expected north of Route 2.

Farther south, the front is providing plenty of cloud cover this morning. These clouds will stick around through the rest of the day, which will keep temps a bit lower in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. A wave of low pressure will develop along the front this afternoon, and will bring fairly widespread rain to southern/coastal areas beginning 9-10 AM in southern NH before moving into SW Maine in the 11 AM – 1 PM timeframe. Given good moisture availability and some instability, some of this rain will fall in the form of convective showers which could be heavy at times and may even produce a rumble or two of thunder. The best chance for these showers will be along the northern edge of the rain, stretching from Hanover NH east to the Midcoast.

Rain will depart quickly from west to east this evening as the low moves offshore.
