Clouds Return Today

Hello everyone!

Clouds will return to the region today ahead of a storm system that will rapidly develop east of the Carolinas. This storm will track too far east to bring us any precipitation, but we’ll get a solid mid-level cloud deck for most of the day as it develops offshore. These clouds look to move in during the mid-morning hours and most spots south of the mountains look to get a couple hours of sunshine before then.

Temps today will differ quite substantially between northern and southern parts of the area. In the north, cloud cover during the morning and proximity to a colder airmass will lead to high temps roughly around seasonal normals (upper 20’s to low 30’s). Along the coastal plain, downsloping and a bit of sun this morning will push highs well above normal yet again (low 40’s along the NE coast, upper 40’s in southern NH).

One last note to make about today’s weather is the winds. As the storm intensifies, northerly/northeasterly winds will pick up across the area this afternoon. These winds shouldn’t be strong enough to cause any disruptions, but if you’re headed out and about this evening, you’ll definitely notice the stronger breezes.
