Hello everyone!

Today will be the most exciting weather we’ve had in a while as a cold front appears to slice through the region at just the right time of day with just the right amount of energy to support potentially significant severe weather.

It’s pretty cloudy out there this morning, but we should see some breaks in the overcast as we get closer to midday. By early in the afternoon, temps will range from the mid 70s up north to the low 80s in southern NH with just a few cooler outliers in the mid 60s along the Midcoast.

Radar imagery this morning shows scattered shower activity along the Midcoast with a line of stronger storms up near the Canadian border. Expect both batches of precipitation to weaken and slide east this morning, with mostly dry conditions developing by midday. The primary band of thunderstorms will arrive from the west around 2-3 PM for the mountains before spreading southeast later in the afternoon.

Today’s storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, hail, and possibly even a tornado or two over southern parts of the area. This is of course in addition to the menu of hazards presented by even “garden variety” thunderstorms (lightning and heavy rain). So keep an eye to the sky this afternoon and have a way to receive warnings if they are issued for your area. The strongest storms should be departing offshore by sunset with cooler and drier air filtering in from the north.

Our fast-paced early-fall weather pattern continues to keep things interesting as our next storm system arrives from the west starting this afternoon. That means morning sunshine will gradually fade to clouds this afternoon, with the potential for some showers especially over in northern NH. Winds will flip around to the southeast which will help keep temps a bit cooler, ranging from the low/mid 60s along the coast and up north to the mid 70s in western NH.

Hello everyone!

A cold front will approach from the west today, leaving us with warmer and more humid air as well as weather that’s a bit more unsettled. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds as the front crosses the region. This morning, look for more clouds north and better opportunities for sunshine to the south. This afternoon/evening will see a reversal of fortunes with the front’s clouds moving towards the coast and drier air working into the mountains.

There won’t be a ton of rain associated with the front, but some showers are possible especially midday up in the mountains where the best overlap of forcing and fuel will be for convection. We might even see a rumble or two of thunder, but overall there looks to be too little in the way of atmospheric “juice” to support much of a thunderstorm threat.

Temps will rise into the upper 70s down south and low/mid 70s up north.

Today will feature improving weather as last night’s storm departs to the east and Canadian air reclaims its rightful perch overhead. Look for morning showers to depart the Midcoast over the next couple hours, with clouds following behind around midday. The afternoon looks mostly sunny with highs in the 60s (low up north, upper along the coast) although a couple clouds seem likely to pop up along a subtle secondary boundary along the coast early in the afternoon. A couple of these clouds may produce some brief showers. NW breezes will be noticeable and may help to keep clouds stuck in the mountains a bit longer this morning.

Today will feature mild and rainy weather as moisture from powerful Hurricane Larry surges northwest and crashes into the leading edge of a cooler/drier airmass from Canada. Scattered showers are showing up on the map this morning over our area, while steadier and heavier rain lurks down over southern New England. Expect that steadier rain to advance northward today, arriving in the mid/late afternoon. Rain will become heavier especially this evening and especially along the coast as a new storm develops east of Cape Cod. High temps should sit within a few degrees of 70 for most spots today, with dew points stuck in the low-mid 60s.

Today will feature the brief return of warmer and more humid air as a cold front approaches from the west and we get more of a southerly wind direction. Look for high temps ranging from the mid 60s along the Midcoast to the low 80s in southern NH and interior SW Maine. Skies will generally feature a mix of sun and clouds for most of the day, with clouds slowly becoming more widespread as we head deeper into the afternoon. Showers will start to approach from the west around sunset, but most of the rain should hold off until after dark. We’ll get a decaying line of thunderstorms overnight with very little impact as the front passes overhead. Cooler and drier air returns tomorrow!

Today will feature beautiful early fall weather as high pressure settles in briefly between two storms of Canadian origin. Look for mostly sunny skies, light westerly breezes, and temps ranging from the upper 60s up north to the mid 70s in the south. A very brief shower can’t be totally ruled out up near Jackman/Greenville but otherwise today will be dry. Enjoy!

Hello everyone!

Unsettled weather will return today as a cold front passes overhead. Look for partly to mostly sunny skies this morning before clouds move in this afternoon. The thickest clouds and the best chance for showers will be found up in the mountains, closer to the upper-level disturbance driving the front eastward. Showers will move into northwestern areas around noon and will weaken as they approach the coast in the evening. Look for some rumbles of thunder and gusty winds in these showers, though major severe weather is not expected.

High temps today will range from the mid 60s along the midcoast with patchy fog to the low 70s up in the mountains to the upper 70s in southern NH and Maine’s coastal plain.
