Hello everyone!

It’s rare I describe forecast weather conditions as perfect, but for the first day of Labor Day Weekend, you can’t get any better than this. Light NW breezes will keep Canadian air flowing into the region while abundant sunshine will push temps into the low-mid 70s. Dew points will remain low and no precip is expected. Pretty hard to draw up anything better this time of year. Enjoy the lovely day, hopefully outside!

Hello everyone!

Cooler air will pour into the area today on breezy NW winds behind ex-Ida. That means it will feel a whole lot more like fall with temps capped around 60 up north and in the mid 60s along the coast. We’ll see our traditional upslope/downslope pattern returning to some extent, though strong heating this afternoon should break off some of the mountain clouds and let them move down towards the coast. Some of these clouds may be capable of brief rain showers during the afternoon/early evening, especially in the mountains and points northeast of Augusta.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature increasing clouds during the morning and eventually developing rain in the afternoon/evening as the remnants of Hurricane Ida approach from the southwest. The storm is no longer a hurricane, or even tropical, as it left its wind and symmetric structure behind in Mississippi on Monday. That said, it still has plenty of moisture and its remnant circulation will team up with an energized jet stream to make sure as much of that moisture ends up on the ground in the form of rain as possible.

Most of the action today will be focused to our southwest, but clouds will be on the increase this morning. By early afternoon, rain will begin moving into southern NH and far SW Maine , while northwesterly breezes and Canadian air keep the mountains and much of the foothills dry. High temps today will be kept on the cooler side by the clouds, ranging from around 70 up north to the mid 70s along the coastal plain.

The heavy rain arrives here later in the evening, mostly in southern NH and along the coast of Maine. Several inches of rain are possible in these areas, which may lead to some flash flooding, though our situation is far less dire than parts of the Mid Atlantic and Southern New England. Farther north, heavy rain will hold off until the overnight hours and won’t amount to more than an inch or so. Spots near the international border are likely to see even less.

Having teamed up with the fast-moving jet stream, Ida will be quick to depart tomorrow morning with just some light rain remaining along the coast by sunrise and clearing expected before noon.
