We have one more mild day to get through today before a strong cold front sweeping in from the west will bring us back to where we should be this time of year in terms of temps. The storm’s warm front is currently draped across the area and radar is picking up on some showers in central NH/coastal Maine as of 9 AM. These showers should dissipate and lift northeast over the next couple hours leaving us with mostly dry weather by midday as we await the arrival of the cold front.

The midday dry period may even feature a break or two of sunshine especially in southern NH and parts of Maine south of Portland. Temps will top out in the low 60s way up north and along the Midcoast with mid/upper 70s over interior parts of southern NH/southwest ME.

The cold front won’t arrive until after dark, around 8-9 PM in NH and 9-11 PM in Maine. This means that thunderstorms forming along the front will be running out of juice by the time they get here. A few rumbles of thunder and some gusty winds are expected, but this isn’t traditionally the type of setup that brings significant impacts from thunderstorms.

Winds for most of today will be breezy from the south-southeast, especially near the coast before shifting towards the west after the front passes.

Our run of extraordinarily mild weather is beginning to come to an end today as we get some cooler marine air ahead of a big cold front that will cross the region tomorrow and usher in seasonably cool air from Canada. Satellite imagery this morning shows low clouds locked in across most of the area with a few clear spots in southern and western NH. This is due to a backdoor cold front draped near the NH/ME border separating cool marine air to the east from warmer continental air to the west. Today’s weather will be driven primarily by this feature.

East of the front in Maine and eastern NH, look for thick clouds to remain stuck overhead throughout the day. Light south-southeasterly breezes will keep temps in the upper 50s to low 60s, and patches of drizzle/light rain are possible.

West of the front in western NH, skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds with light south-southwesterly breezes keeping the mild weather rolling. High temps will top out in the upper 60s to low 70s, and the better shot for a shower or two will come in the late afternoon as some instability develops due to the unseasonably warm and humid airmass.

A quick peek at the weekend forecast shows two rounds of showers on tap tomorrow morning and evening as a storm tracks up the Saint Lawrence Valley. Between the system’s warm and cold fronts, breezy southerly winds will bring one last day of mild weather before colder air moves in behind the front for Sunday.

Today will feature continued mild weather as we remain on the warm side of the jet stream which currently runs from the Desert Southwest up through the Plains towards Hudson Bay. Skies are starting out mostly clear along the coast with some valley fog and low clouds upwind of the mountains. With light northwesterly breezes settling in today, expect our usual upslope/downslope pattern to continue providing clearer skies to the foothills/coast while the mountains remain stuck with overcast. This afternoon, some showers might pop up in the mountains as a weak disturbance passes overhead. Temps will follow our usual upslope/downslope pattern with mid 60s up in the mountains and mid 70s along the coastal plain.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature continued very mild weather as southwesterly breezes continue to push warm air into the region from Mid Atlantic. Skies are starting sunny this morning but some clouds may try to move in from the west this afternoon. The best chance for clouds will be up along the Canadian border. High temps will continue to range from the upper 60s/low 70s way up in the mountains and along the Midcoast to the mid/upper 70s in interior southern areas as well as some of the foothills farther north. Not much precipitation is expected in the area today, but a stray late afternoon shower can’t be ruled out in the CT Valley.

Hello everyone!

High pressure remains firmly in charge of the region’s weather today which means more mild air and quiet weather. Fog has laid claim to most of the area’s valleys this morning, but should be quick to burn off after sunrise. Just like yesterday, most of the area should then see at least a few hours of blue sky before cirrus tries to thicken up this afternoon. No precip is expected as storm systems continue tracking well to our west and north. South of the storm track, high temps will remain well above what we’d expect for this time of year, generally ranging from the upper 60s way up north and right along Penobscot Bay to the mid 70s in interior southern NH/SW Maine.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature continued quiet weather along with perhaps a little bit more sunshine as high pressure attempts to build in from the northeast. Look for high temps ranging through the 60s with the coolest air up in the mountains and the warmest down in the foothills of NH/SW ME. Fog and low clouds are spread thick across much of the area this morning but will gradually lift and break up as we head into the midday hours. Some high clouds will then approach from the west this afternoon, but I’m expecting at least some sunshine in between, especially farther east.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature generally quiet weather as a backdoor cold front approaches from the northeast. Ahead of this boundary, mild weather will continue especially for NH today with high temps ranging from the upper 60s in the northern part of the state to the low or even mid 70s down south. Skies here will be mostly sunny. Over in Maine, the front will be arriving in the early afternoon so we’ll feel more of its impact. Look for morning sunshine to give way to some patchy clouds this afternoon as the front swings through. Some of those clouds may produce drizzle and fog especially closer to the midcoast this afternoon. Winds will become gusty out of the east/northeast after the front, holding temps in the low to mid 60s for most with some upper 50s northeast of Augusta and along the shores of Penobscot Bay.

Hello everyone!

It’s hard to ask for better weather in early October given what’s on tap today. Look for mostly sunny skies across the area, light winds, and temps rising into the low 70s for most (some mid/upper 60s up north and right along the coast). There’s just a little bit of river/valley fog showing up on satellite imagery this morning especially over NH, but that should burn off quickly. Enjoy the nice weather! This is probably one of the last times we’ll hit 70 until the spring.

Today will feature improving weather and clearing skies as low pressure falls apart in the Gulf of Maine and high pressure builds in from the north. Skies are already clearing up in northeastern parts of the region this morning, and sunshine will gradually advance towards the southwest later today. The region is mostly done with the rain, but some more showers are possible over southern New Hampshire. Temps will be warmest (mid 60s) up in the north where sunshine will be most widespread and coolest in southern NH (mid 50s) where clouds will hang tough for most if not all of the day.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature cool temps, cloudy skies, and sometimes showery weather as we remain underneath a stalled frontal boundary. The best chance for some breaks of sun will be mid morning up northeast of Augusta after some early morning fog burns off. Temps up here could touch 60 while the rest of the area stays stuck in the 50s. Farther southwest, thick clouds will hold tight and showers will slowly advance out of southern NH into southwestern Maine this afternoon.
