I’m a third-year atmospheric science student at Cornell University who has been blogging about the weather since 2011. While I’m not officially a meteorologist, I have accumulated a bit of experience forecasting both local weather (in western Maine and New Hampshire) as well as national/international weather during my time writing for weather.us and weathermodels.com. I also have experience programming in Python, teaching concepts in weather forecasting, and communicating forecast information to general audiences.
Today will feature the beginning of a multi-step process that will involve lots of NW winds and an impressive drop in temps. The first cold front (of three) is now pushing across the area with showers along and ahead of it. Westerly winds will bring drier but only marginally cooler air into the region today which will result in continued mild temps along with a few sunny breaks here or there, especially downwind of the mountains. Look for highs in the upper 30’s north and upper 40’s to low 50’s south.
More cold air is on the way along with the chance for snow in about a week’s time!
I’ve been off dealing with some family things the past few days but things are beginning to clear up enough for some more forecasting so here we go. Today will feature cloudy skies along with increasing temps and gradually rainier conditions. Precip has already begun for some areas in the north in the form of snow but any flakes will be short-lived unfortunately as warm air rushes in from the south. Look for all areas to be seeing rain by this evening. Rain will continue overnight before coming to an end early tomorrow morning. Highs today will range from 35 in the far north to 50 in SW NH.
Today will feature the triumphant albeit temporary return of winter. Temps will continue to fall through the 10’s and 20’s across the area under mainly sunny skies. Upslope snow showers will be confined to the higher elevations due to the lack of deep moisture but the highest summits could be in for another inch or two during the day today. Wind chills will begin to become an issue as temps approach zero this evening and winds continue blowing at 25-30mph. Bundle up if you’re heading outside!
Nasty warmth is set to occupy the area again mid week as another storm tracks to our west.
NW winds will put to bed any hopes of an early spring as colder air arrives non stop from the North Pole. Look for temps falling into the 10’s by this evening with wind gusts up over 45mph at times. Rain showers in the mountains will change to snow and upsloping will keep the flakes falling through the day today with light accumulations possible in the higher terrain. Enjoy early March the way it should be!
Meteorological spring is here. Unfortunately, Mother Nature seemed to have gotten the leaked memo a few weeks ago and our pattern of gross weather will continue today before a cold front arrives in a couple of days to knock some sense into the pattern. By the time the weekend rolls around, wind chills will drop to 20 below zero in the north and 5 to 10 below zero in the south. Enjoy an extra helping of refrozen snow with that as you enjoy all the beautiful bare ground now available for your viewing pleasure.
Now for today’s weather… Look for cloudy skies and patchy drizzle/fog/showers as a warm front tries to work north. Highs will range from the lower 40’s in the north to the mid 60’s in SW NH. Showers will take a break mid day before another round rolls through later in the afternoon into tonight which could bring severe weather to western areas and a rumble or two is possible anywhere south of the mountains.
We have one more mild storm in the pipeline that will begin today and last through Thursday. The warm front will be the feature we’re dealing with today and with it will come drizzle, fog, and more nasty warmth. Highs will rise into the 40’s north and 50’s south. Most precip today will be in the form of drizzle but some showers will arrive by the evening hours which could fall as flurries up in the mountains where temps will once again be falling by this evening.
More showers and a few storms are possible tomorrow into Thursday before a cold front knocks some sense into this weather pattern. There’s a time and a place for this weather. It’s called North Carolina in February or Maine in May. Not Maine in February!
Our confused weather pattern rolls on today as a storm previously forecast to do what February storms should (i.e. track to our south and bring us snow) decides to move to our west. As a result, look for more of this disgusting warmth as temps soar into the 40’s north and 50’s south. Showers of the liquid variety will be scattered across the north and southern areas will see a mix of sun and clouds.
The times, they are a changin’! A cold front is on the way for tonight and ahead of it we have one more foggy/toasty day to get through before winter’s magic can begin to return. Look for highs ranging from the 50’s north to the low 60’s in SW NH along with drizzle and fog as our snowpack continues to melt. Showers will move into the CT river valley this evening and move eastward tonight, changing to snow in the high elevations. The ski areas should wake up to 2-4″ of snow tomorrow morning with 6″ possible at the summits. About time we put some snow between us and the glaciers!
One more storm threatens to be warm and rainy mid-week and then the pattern shift will be complete with a snowier few weeks incoming. Winter’s not over yet!
Today will feature more awful weather as a warm front lifts north through the region. Look for highs to range from 40 ahead of the front in the mountains to 60 behind the front in SW NH. As warm air travels north across our snowpack, look for drizzle and fog to develop with the chance of an actual shower in the south along the front.
Today will feature more warm weather. Highs will range from 40 in the north to 55 in the south under partly to mostly sunny skies. Things should remain dry except for a line of showers forecast to roll through in the afternoon from west to east. They are not forecast to cause any issues.
It looks like this disgusting pattern only has a couple more days left. Colder air will be back in charge by Sunday.
