Warm and wet through the weekend, winter returns next week

Hello everyone!

Today will feature warm temps and the chance for a shower or two scattered about. Temps will get up to the 30’s and 40’s with a light NW wind. After today, the warm and wet pattern continues through the weekend before a return to winter next week. As of now, I see no specific winter storm threats.

Today cooler than the last few but highs still in the 40’s

Hello everyone!

Today will feature light winds out of the NW pretending to usher in cooler air. However, this “cold air” will be but a few degrees cooler than what we are now accustomed to. Temp today make it into the lower 40’s under mostly sunny skies. Tomorrow through early next week features a gradual re-introduction to winter with temps falling 2-3 degrees each day. It will remain unsettled with numerous disturbances passing very close offshore keep the chance for rain or snow in the forecast. I see no major systems in the forecast just more cold air next week.

Warm, wet, and windy today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature strong southerly winds bringing mild temps as well as wet conditions. Rain and wind are spreading through the area now and will become steady throughout the day. Fog will also be a issue as a warm moist air mass moving over a solid snow pack creates dense fog as we have seen in the last two heavy rain events. Tomorrow will feature the passage of a coastal low offshore that could bring light rain/snow to the region. A few more rain/snow showers are possible Thursday. Friday is our rest day with mostly sunny skies and cooler temps. The January thaw ends this weekend with accumulating snow and highs back where they should be- in the 10’s and 20’s.

Warm again today, more rain Tuesday

Hello everyone!

Today will feature more warm conditions as we continue our January thaw. Temps will be in the 40’s for most of us except for far northern Maine who will see 30’s. Our next storm will move in Tuesday bringing warm, wet, and windy conditions to the region. More flooding problems can likely be expected with this storm as more rain and warm temps will cause even more water in already swollen streams and rivers. After this storm, more unsettled, warm weather continues well into the week. As of now, I see little in the way of snow chances.

Some light snow today, heavy rain this weekend and early next week

Today will feature light snow associated with a very weak storm passing over the area. This should not accumulate to much of anything and travel is not expected to be impacted much at all. Temps today will be in the 20’s and 30’s. Tomorrow, heavy rain can be expected with the passage of a strong cold front. Rainfall amounts of 1-2″ could cause flooding problems. Temps remain mild into next week with more rain in the forecast Tuesday.

Partly sunny today, mild temps this weekend into next week

Today will be the last day of cold weather for a while as the much talked about polar vortex will be shifting back to the north and a warm southerly flow will be bringing in warmer air. Temps today will be in the 10’s and 20’s before rising into the 40’s this weekend. A weak cold front will pass through today that gives us a slight chance for a flurry or snow shower. We have a few heavy rain chances in the next few days one on Saturday and one early next week. On Saturday, 1-2″ of rain will fall causing much of our snow pack to melt that could cause flooding. On Tuesday, a coastal storm could bring more heavy rain.

Cold today, January thaw ahead

Hello everyone!

Cold temps will lead headlines today into tomorrow. Highs will run in the 10’s or 20’s with continued blustery west winds. Wind chills will likely be near or below 0. Mostly sunny conditions will dominate the skies today with any clouds coming from Lake Ontario in the form of long gone lake effect bands. Looking ahead, a tragic event is coming up: the January thaw. Temps look to be in the 40’s for 5+ days with rain Saturday and Monday at the least. Sadly, most of the snow pack will melt along the coast. Another area of concern will be rivers-all the runoff could cause flooding problems. I see no major snow in sight and no sign of a pattern shift that would bring more substantial snow chances.

Cold and windy today

Today will feature a mix of sun and clouds accompanied by much colder temps and some gusty winds bringing in even colder air. Actual temps will fall steadily today with many high temps set at midnight and likely many low temps will be set at 11:59 PM this evening Temps in the 20’s this morning will fall into the teens by this afternoon. Wind chills will likely be subzero with gusty NW winds. There is also the chance for a passing snow shower however accumulations will be light if any. Looking ahead, no major storms are in sight with a gradual warm up and more rain this weekend.

Wet and windy today

Today will feature the passage of a strong cold font that will result in a wild temperature swing. This morning we will have temps in the 40’s and 50’s with strong SE winds. Rain will be the dominant form of precip this morning due to the warm temps. This afternoon however, we experience the passage of the front with a precipitous drop in temps as gusty NW winds will bring in a new shot of arctic air. Temps by sundown will be in the 10’s and 20s which could cause flash freezing where puddles of rain/snow melt collect on the roads then freeze. A cold week is ahead followed by more mild weather next weekend.

Rain/mixed precip tonight, rain tomorrow

Hello everyone!

Tonight we have some light precip moving through mainly in the form of freezing rain/sleet and that will likely persist throughout the overnight hours. The “main event” will move in before dawn tomorrow in the form of all rain at the coast, a mix in the foothills and mainly sleet/snow in the mountains. Almost everyone will see rain for a period Monday morning before a powerful cold front passes through creating a dangerous flash-freeze setup where rain/melted snow will suddenly freeze on roads/sidewalks making for icy conditions. Almost everyone will have a shot at some snow squalls after the front passes through which could briefly reduce visibility and cause slick roads. Despite this, I expect no major travel impacts from this storm as it will be mostly rain/freezing rain and temps will be mild enough for salt to work on the roads.

Winds will become gusty out of the S/SE out ahead of the front and will then become gusty out of the NW behind the front as temps fall precipitously into the 10’s and 20’s.
