Moderate Snow Today

Hello everyone!

A snowstorm is on the way for today as low pressure develops to our southeast. Snow will arrive from SE to NW just after noon, with some of the immediate coastline east of Brunswick starting as a rain/snow mix. Light snow will become moderate, and occasionally even heavy this afternoon as the storm moves by offshore. Snow will taper off late tonight, though light snow could linger into tomorrow morning especially NE of Portland. Temps will range from the low 20’s north to a little above freezing on the midcoast today. Everyone cools down as the sun sets and cold air begins flowing south this evening. When that process starts, any leftover rain in the Rockland area will switch over to snow.

Here’s what I’m thinking for total accumulation. The lowest totals will be found in the CT river valley, farthest away from the rising motion and moisture associated with the storm system. The jackpot will be along the coastal plain away from the Midcoast where a few spots could pick up more than 6″. Most totals will fall between 3 and 6″ aside from the two spots mentioned (CT valley and Midcoast) where there are noteworthy inhibiting factors.

More snow and potentially some ice is in the forecast for Tuesday.
