Cool And Calm Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature more cool and calm weather as Arctic air sits to our west and tropical moisture sits well to our southeast. These two ingredients will try to join forces tomorrow, but it remains to be seen just how effective that effort will be. In the meantime, we’re left with neither brutally cold air nor widespread clouds and precipitation. Look for highs ranging from the upper 20’s north to the low 30’s south. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny with little more than mountain flurries expected for precipitation.

Cool And Quiet Weather Returns Today

Hello everyone!

Yesterday’s cold front is long gone, which means that we’ll be left with cool and quiet weather today. Look for highs to range from the low 30’s north to the upper 30’s south. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, with the most cloud cover expected in the north and mountains. Some upslope flurries are possible today, but otherwise it’ll be dry as high pressure builds in from the west.

Improving Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Last night’s rain is departing to the east this morning, and it won’t be long before dry conditions return. Winds that were gusty out of the south last night will become breezy out of the west this afternoon, though gusts won’t be high enough to cause more than very isolated issues. Look for the westerly winds to help facilitate clearing skies as drier air moving into the region gets a boost from local downsloping. In the mountains, moisture from the Great Lakes combined with upsloping winds will result in continued local cloudiness and the chance for a few snowflakes this morning. Clearing will expand to the mountains this afternoon as even drier air moves in.

Temps will peak fairly early in the day, as it won’t take long for the incoming cold air to overpower the weak influence of daytime heating as we approach the shortest day of the year. Temps in the morning will range from the mid 40’s in the north to the mid 50’s in the south. By sunset, temperatures will be dropping below freezing across most areas away from the coastline.

Rain Arrives Today

Hello everyone!

Our quiet pattern is ending today as rain moves in from the west. A cold front is approaching, and this system will be the impetus for a pattern change. This pattern change will be a long-duration event, lasting at least through Christmas, and will feature much colder weather with the chance for snow.

Today though, we’ll be too warm for snow outside of the mountains where a few flakes can’t be ruled out. Look for temps to rise into the mid 30’s north and low 40’s south as strong SSE winds transport warm air into the area. As we head into the overnight hours, these winds will gust over 50 mph at times along the coast, especially the Midcoast NE of Portland. As a result, scattered power outages are expected, though this system won’t be anywhere near as bad as the one that hit just prior to Halloween.

Rain will develop over western areas early this afternoon as the front approaches. Dry air near the surface will help to slow the advance of the rain, and evaporational cooling due to the dry air will help the mountains start with a few snowflakes and ice pellets before warm air overwhelms the entire area. Rain should start in Maine mid afternoon, and by sunset the entire area should be seeing precipitation.

Cool And Calm Pattern Continues

Hello everyone!

Today will feature a continuation of a very familiar pattern here in Maine and New Hampshire. Temps will be seasonably cool, ranging from the mid 30’s north to the upper 30’s south. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds, though today’s mix will feature more sun than clouds across the majority of the area. No precipitation is expected.

Another Cool And Quiet Day Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature weather that’s a lot like what we saw yesterday. Cool temps will range from the mid 30’s north to upper 30’s south, and we’ll look for dry and calm weather once again. As with yesterday, mid to high level moisture will result in filtered sunshine, though no precipitation is expected.

Cool And Quiet Today

Hello everyone!

A cool and quiet day is on tap today as our tranquil weather pattern rolls along. For those wondering, this quiet pattern has exactly three more days left in it before a new sheriff arrives in town. I’ll have much more discussion about the upcoming pattern change in today’s weather.us blog this afternoon.

High temperatures today will be seasonably cool, with readings slightly below freezing in the north, and a little above freezing in the south. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds as mid level moisture drifts through the region. This moisture won’t be enough to support any precipitation though, and dry conditions are expected to continue.

Improving Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature improving weather conditions as a cold front and its associated clouds/precipitation move offshore. Look for morning clouds and patchy fog to clear out downwind of the mountains by this afternoon. Along the coast, downsloping NW winds will help with this process, but in the mountains, those winds will be moving upslope, resulting in continued clouds and snow showers. Temps today will be fairly warm, especially where downsloping’s influence is felt. Look for highs ranging from the mid 30’s north to the mid 40’s south.

Enjoy the warm weather, its days are numbered!
