Ice will be the name of the game this morning as a shallow layer of cold air is dammed against the mountains while warm air surges in aloft. We’re in a brief break between areas of steady precip this morning, but that will change in the next couple hours as freezing rain moves back into the region. Freezing rain will continue through the midday hours as temps slowly warm towards freezing. The midcoast will be the first to see the change to plain rain this morning, and areas near Fryeburg/Bethel will be the last, likely taking well into this afternoon or early evening. Ice accretion will range from a glaze along the midcoast to up to 1/3″ in the Fryeburg area. This will be enough to make for extremely slick travel, but not enough to cause widespread power disruptions. Temps will warm this afternoon into the mid 30’s for most, with 40’s and even low 50’s possible along the immediate coast. During this time, heavy showers will be roll through along with gusty SSW winds. A rumble or two of thunder can’t be ruled out among these showers.
