Showers And Thunderstorms Return Today

Hello everyone!

Showers and thunderstorms will return today as a series of frontal systems moves through the area. The first to arrive will be a warm front which is currently moving through Southern New England. This front has an area of shower/thunderstorm activity associated with it which is currently impacting western New Hampshire. These showers and storms are moving ENE and will arrive in SW Maine between 9 and 10 AM. While these showers will bring heavy rain and lightning to the southern half of the area this morning, the severe weather threat won’t ramp up until this evening.

After the morning round of showers departs, expect some partial sunshine and an increase in humidity as a more tropical airmass filters in. The warm front likely will make it about as far north as a Berlin NH/Waterville ME line, south of which will be the greatest threat for severe storms this afternoon. Storms will develop along the cold front to the west of the area early this afternoon before moving east through NH during the mid/late afternoon hours. By the early evening, storms will be moving through Maine. These afternoon storms will produce scattered damaging winds, some small hail, and a few might be strong enough to spin up a brief tornado. Chances for any type of severe weather will be highest in SW regions.

Storms will weaken as they move into eastern parts of the area after sunset. High temps today will range from 75 in the northwest to a little above 80 in SW NH.
