Hello everyone!
I’m now all unpacked down here in Ithaca and ready to actually restart regular updates as classes get underway. Unfortunately, the atmosphere has just about picked right up where I left off with hot temperatures and oppressive humidity. A cold front will attempt to bring some relief this evening, but in the process will introduce the risk for some showers and thunderstorms.
Skies start partly to mostly sunny this morning with the thickest clouds located up in the mountains/northeastern foothills. Those clouds should break up over the coming hours, enabling strong heating to push temps into the upper 80s up north and low 90s down south. Dew points will once again surpass the 70F mark which will make it feel even hotter.
Clouds will start to pop up again this afternoon as the front approaches from the north. The mountains and northeastern parts of the foothills are most likely to get a shower or storm later this afternoon/this evening, but one can’t be ruled out farther south. There isn’t a huge severe threat with these, but some gusty winds are possible in the stronger cells.
Shower activity wanes this evening ahead of another mild and humid night. Relief from the humidity will arrive from the north early tomorrow morning, especially up in the mountains.
