Hello everyone!

A storm system that brought flash flooding and tornadoes to parts of the Midwest yesterday is becoming our problem for today as it spreads precipitation into a cold airmass of varying depths. Snow is already overspreading the area from SW to NE this morning, and precipitation will continue through this evening. The trick will be figuring out in what form that precipitation will be hitting the ground. For the mountains, cold air will be deep enough to allow for a mostly snow event, with just a quick change to sleet near the end of precip this evening. In those areas (Whites plus areas N of rt 2) expect 3-6″ of snow, with some towns picking up as much as 8″. For inland areas, expect snow to continue through the early afternoon before changing to sleet. 2-4″ of snow/sleet are expected here. Along the coastal plain, look for snow to change to sleet a bit more quickly with 1-3″ expected. Along the immediate coast, east of rt. 1, look for an early burst of snow to change to rain as onshore flow brings warm air in at the surface. Just a coating is expected here.

After our 70’s on Wednesday, and snow in southern parts of the area yesterday, we’re headed for somewhat of a middle ground today with seasonable temperatures and some light mixed precipitation. Look for highs ranging from 30 in the mountains to 40 on the NH seacoast. Skies will start at least partly sunny this morning, but clouds will move in midday ahead of our next storm system. Precipitation will develop from west to east through the mid/late afternoon hours, initially falling as snow or rain depending on surface temps. As warm air continues to flow in aloft, expect a transition to more mixed precipitation types with freezing rain and sleet forecast for a large part of the area by the early evening. The immediate coastline will likely stay warm enough for all rain. Precipitation will depart from west to east early in the night tonight.

Hello everyone!

Today’s weather will feature a return to the proper order here in Northern New England, where we would expect temperatures to be somewhat below 70 in the month of February. Highs will be seasonable today, ranging from 25 in the north to 35 along the NH Seacoast. This cooler weather will be accompanied by some snow in Southern NH this afternoon, though accumulations are expected to remain below the 1″ mark. Mostly cloudy skies are expected across the rest of the area outside of the mountains as a system passes to our south.

The forecast for today is a hot mess. Hot because temps could reach 70  in southern NH, and a mess because first of all under no circumstances should it be 70 in New England in February, and second of all we have some low level clouds and fog that could result in locally impeded warming. Satellite imagery shows scattered mid level clouds moving from west to east across the area this morning, with areas of stubborn low level cloudiness not really going anywhere. In areas that are able to break into the sunshine relatively soon this morning, temps will soar into the 60’s and possibly even low 70’s. For those that remain socked in the fog, which is dense in places, temps will be limited to the low 50’s. The most likely place for this will be the Midcoast, with southern NH standing the best chance at sunny skies. Higher elevations in the foothills and mountains are also more likely to break into the warmth over sheltered valleys which could stay quite cold due to very localized cold air damming. Today will start mostly dry, but a line of showers is possible this evening as a cold front moves through.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature weather that depends entirely on exactly where you are. There will be a dividing line (warm front) that runs roughly from Lebanon NH to Portland ME today. North of this line, look for seasonably cool temps, cloudy skies, and areas of drizzle, fog, and rain. Highs here will remain in the mid to upper 30’s. South of this line, dry weather is expected with skies that are at least partly sunny. Additionally, highs will jump into the low to mid 50’s as our air is sourced directly from the Gulf of Mexico.

Today will feature developing sunshine and warming temperatures as last night’s system moves quickly away to the east. Satellite imagery shows clouds just clearing out of the Midcoast as of 9 AM, with the only other cloud cover found in the typical upslope regions. With NW flow developing behind the departing storm, we’ll be left with the classic upslope/downslope pattern today and clouds will stick around over the mountains with temps  few degrees below freezing, while the coast sees sunshine with temps a few degrees above freezing. Outside of some upslope flurries, no additional precipitation is expected.

Today will feature cool and calm weather as high pressure builds into the region behind last night’s cold front. Look for highs ranging from 20 in the north to 32 along the coast. Skies will start the day mainly sunny, and end the day mainly cloudy as our next system approaches from the southwest. That system will bring light snow tonight, that will amount to a dusting in the north, and as much as 4″ in SE NH. Snow will arrive this evening in southern NH between 8 and 9, and in southern Maine between 9 and 11, before departing from west to east tomorrow morning. By lunchtime tomorrow, the sun will be out, and temps warming as the system races off to the east.

Hello everyone!

Today will feature another day of weather that belongs in April, not February. A warm front is lifting through the area this morning, and behind it temps will rise above freezing in the north and all the way to 50 in the south. This warmth will be accompanied increasing amounts of grey, both in the sky as clouds move in from the west, and on the ground as our snowpack is slowly whittled away. Most areas will stay mostly dry today, though some showers are possible in the north and mountains especially this evening.

After a chilly day yesterday, temps are headed back up today as high pressure shifts off to our southeast. Look for highs ranging from 30 in the north to 40 in SE NH. As the warm air moves in, areas of cloudiness will move through today, though no precipitation is expected.

Even warmer temps arrive tomorrow along with the increased chance for coastal rain and mountain snow showers.
