I’m a third-year atmospheric science student at Cornell University who has been blogging about the weather since 2011. While I’m not officially a meteorologist, I have accumulated a bit of experience forecasting both local weather (in western Maine and New Hampshire) as well as national/international weather during my time writing for weather.us and weathermodels.com. I also have experience programming in Python, teaching concepts in weather forecasting, and communicating forecast information to general audiences.

More Mountain Showers/Storms Today

Hello everyone!

Remember yesterday’s weather? Today’s is going to look pretty similar. Storms will fire in the mountains this afternoon as things warm up. Onshore flow will keep the coast cooler and drier. Look for more highs in the low/mid 80’s inland and mid/upper 70’s along the coast. Once again, lightning and torrential rains are expected to be the main threats with the thunderstorms this afternoon. Skies will be mainly clear outside of the showers and storms.

More Showers And Thunderstorms This Afternoon

Hello everyone!

Remember yesterday’s weather? We had warm and humid temps as pop up showers and storms developed in the afternoon. Not everyone got storms but those who did got some gusty winds and small hail. The exact same thing is in store for today. Highs will range through the 80’s with high humidity. Showers and storms will develop in the afternoon and will weaken as the sun sets this evening. Much like yesterday, they will be slow-moving with heavy rain being the main threat along with lightning. Just like yesterday, a few stronger cells with damaging winds and small hail can’t be ruled out.

A Bit More Active Today

Hello everyone!

We’re beginning to get a bit of a respite from our previously boring (albeit beautiful) pattern. A cold front will approach the region very slowly today and showers/storms will develop along it. The entire area is at risk for storms though, as is always the case with convection, it’s hard/impossible to predict exactly where a particular storm will go until it has actually formed. Highs today will range from the upper 70’s along the coast and up north to the mid 80’s in the typical SW warmer spots. Storms will begin to develop a little after noon and will wind down around sunset.

Warming Up Today

Hello everyone!

Our stunning stretch of weather is winding down as warmer and more humid air begins to drift north out of the Gulf of Mexico. Highs today will range through the 80’s with the lower temps in the north and along the coast. Skies will remain mostly sunny except for a few showers that could pop up over Southern NH this afternoon.

More heat and humidity will plague the region heading into the weekend before relief arrives on Saturday.

Slight Chance Showers And Thunderstorms Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature a mix of sun and clouds as a cold front slowly approaches the region. Expect some clouds and showers to develop along that front as we head towards the afternoon hours. The showers will be most widespread in the mountains with coverage becoming scattered as they head towards the coast. A few of the stronger cells could produce a rumble of thunder but the severe weather potential looks to hover somewhere right around zero. High temps will rise into the upper 70’s north and low 80’s south with cooler temps along the coast.

Our Perfect Stretch Of Weather Rolls On

Hello everyone!

More perfect weather is on tap for today as high pressure continues to dominate our weather. Look for clear skies, low humidity, and seasonably warm temps ranging from the mid 70’s in the north to the low 80’s in the south. Enjoy it!

More Perfect Summer Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Our stretch of stunning weather will continue today as cool, dry air from Canada continues to pour into the region on its way south. Skies will be mainly sunny with the exception of a few high clouds in the south. Temps will rise into the low 70’s north and the upper 70’s south, and dew points will continue to remain locked in the “low” category. Sunny skies, low humidity, and mild temps- all sounds perfect to me! Enjoy it!

A Beautiful Summer Day

Hello everyone!

Today’s weather will be just about perfect here in Maine and New Hampshire. High pressure will continue to push into the region and as a result, widespread sunshine is expected for all. Northwest winds will keep temps mild and the humidity low as we warm up to near 80 in the south and into the mid 70’s north. No precipitation is expected as a Nor’easter (!) develops well to our south. That system will continue to pull in cool, dry air over the next several days which will result in more very pleasant weather to come. Enjoy it!

Unsettled Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature unsettled weather as a variety of upper level and surface disturbances swarm around the area. The first round of showers is now offshore and another batch of rain is incoming from New York. This will mainly impact southern areas through the early afternoon. Some breaks in the clouds are trying to develop over the mountains and if they continue to be successful, the threat will increase for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. However, due to the abundant cloud cover, these storms are expected to be weak and isolated. Temps will rise into the 60’s and low 70’s as clouds limit daytime heating.

Warming Up Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature clear skies, light winds, and warmer temps as high pressure moves overhead. Look for highs to get into the low 80’s for most areas with slightly cooler temps along the coast where a sea breeze will kick in this afternoon. Given the presence of high pressure, no precipitation is expected anywhere in the region today and clouds will be minimal. Enjoy the beautiful summer day as low humidity remains in place!
