Rain Arrives Today, Starts As Snow Away From The Coast

Hello everyone!

Rain will arrive from south to north today as low pressure moves up the coast in our direction. Expect this rain to begin as snow in the foothills/mountains this afternoon. Accumulations will range from little/nothing in the foothills to several inches in the mountains. Snow will quickly transition to rain in the foothills this afternoon, with a slower changeover to freezing rain expected in the mountains by tonight. Watch precip arrive with our weather.us radar imagery if you’re interested through the day today.

As for precip onset, rain has started now in SW NH, it will arrive in the Portland area a little after noon, and will make it up to the northern mountains by early evening.

As the storm system gets closer, look for NE winds to pick up, particularly along the coastline. Look for 30-50 mph gusts along the immediate coast, with much weaker winds inland. These winds may be strong enough for some localized power outages, but no major/widespread problems are expected.

Temps will be slowly rising today, topping out around 30 in the mountains, between 35 and 40 for most of the foothills, and near 50 along the immediate coast by this evening. Skies will be entirely overcast except perhaps for a few brief breaks of sun in far NE areas this morning.
