Brighter For Most Today

Hello everyone!

Northwesterly breezes behind yesterday’s storm system will bring brighter skies back into the mix for much of our area today, especially downwind of the mountains. The sunshine will help offset the cooling effect of the incoming Canadian airmass, and temps will range from the mid 40s up north to the mid 50s along the coast this afternoon. A few spotty showers can’t be ruled out northeast of Augusta as some instability develops on the southwestern edge of that storm system this afternoon. Otherwise, today will be mostly dry.

Cool and Showery Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature cool temps and showery weather as a couple more storms pass near and over the region. The first round of steady rain moved through earlier this morning, and lighter/more showery activity is now in progress over much of the area. This will continue into the mid afternoon hours at which point another round of steadier rain will arrive from the southwest. Temps will remain on the cooler side as we sit under thick overcast and onshore flow. Look for highs ranging from the mid 40s across most of Maine to the low 50s over in the CT Valley.

Cool and Unsettled Weather Continues Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature continued cool and unsettled weather as two storms pass nearby. Neither will be close enough to bring steady rain, but showers are possible especially closer to the coast this morning associated with a departing coastal storm and then up in the mountains this afternoon associated with a storm moving through Canada. Cool northeasterly flow between the two systems will keep temps limited to the upper 40s/low 50s for most, with the exception of a few spots northeast of Augusta that might break out of the clouds just long enough to make a run at 60.

A Bit Cooler and More Unsettled Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature slightly cooler temperatures and a bit more cloud cover as a storm hovers off to our southwest. It’s taking its sweet time drifting our way, but most spots south and west of Bethel/Waterville/Belfast are seeing clouds this morning as a result of its presence. This will be the general trend for today with a couple stray showers occasionally dripping from the cloud deck especially in central NH. Temps will remain on the cooler side under the thickest clouds over the Whites and into the Portland-Lewiston corridor where highs will struggle into the mid/upper 50s. Farther northeast, patchy sunshine will warm a cooler airmass into the low 60s, while southern NH enjoys much warmer temps in the upper 60s to low 70s south of the warm front. A strengthening easterly breeze will keep coastal towns on the cooler side as well, especially this afternoon.

Lovely Spring Weather Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature some really lovely spring weather as a series of weak cold fronts slide through the area. Winds will pick up again this afternoon, but will be more from the west than the northwest at least in most spots. This means that there will be less cool air moving into the area, and more of an opportunity for downsloping to boost temps alongside the strong May sun. Look for highs today to range from the upper 50s up in the mountains to mid/upper 60s across much of the foothills-Belfast corridor to mid 70s south of Portland. With westerly breezes taking hold over the area, it will be tough for the sea breeze to make much inland progress this afternoon so even coastal areas will be able to get in on some of the warmth. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny today with the best chance for overcast this morning along the midcoast and this afternoon in southern NH where a few spotty showers are possible.

Cooler, Brighter, and Breezier Today

Hello everyone!

Today will feature cooler temps, brighter skies, and breezy winds as the storm that has been languishing in our vicinity since Wednesday afternoon moves off into Canada. Cooler air is moving in behind the storm, though now that we’re entering May, the chill doesn’t really have much of a sting to it anymore. Highs will range from the upper 30s up north to the low 50s along the southern coast. Morning clouds will clear out this afternoon, especially downwind of the mountains. As the sun comes up and heats the ground, the atmosphere will become configured a bit more favorably for mixing strong winds aloft down towards the surface. So expect winds to pick up through the mid-afternoon hours before slackening slightly this evening. Gusts should top out between 30 and 35 mph so while you’ll want to hold on to your hat outside, power outages should remain very widely scattered, if any occur at all.
