Winter storm tomorrow

Wednesday 5:00: Forecasts have shifted dramatically this past week. Just 1 week ago the forecast was 50 and rain, now it is 33 and snow with freezing rain for Friday. There is some tricky parts in the forecast though. It looks like there will be a strong temperature difference between about 100 yards from the shore where the high will be around 32 or 33 and snow while even 100 yards offshore where highs will be in the upper 30s and rain. Amounts: islands and tips of peninsulas……………1-3″  Coast ( within about 1 mile of the water ) 4-6″   inland  8-12″ and mountains……………..7-9″. More updates in coming hours.

Thursday storm update

Tuesday 6:00 pm: New updates coming in this evening showing that this storm will bring some welcome relief from the “snow drought” this season. This system will be a classic Nor’easter with a stiff NE wind throughout the day thursday. This NE wind will bring a possible mix at the immediate coast ( Islands and tips of peninsulas ) and southern sections of ME and NH. Early snowfall estimates go as following:      Coast………….3-6″
Inland………….4-8″
Mountains………….around 1′

Thursday has been a tricky forecast for the past several days but now the forecast has become more clear. The eventual type of precipitation is still uncertain and will depend on the actual track of the low. But we can eliminate some options. We can eliminate an all rain scenario for NE. Also we can eliminate an even partial snow scenario for the mid atlantic. It will be all rain there.

We are tracking some temperature swings with highs tomorrow in the lower 40s in the south and coast while highs in the upper 30s inland, in the north, and in the mountains. On Wednesday, high temps will reach freezing in most spots with below freezing temps north of Portland-Manchester-Syracuse-Buffalo. Thursday  will feature rain anywhere along the 95 corridor. Mix is expected within about a 30 mile radius north and west of 95. snow can be expected north and west of the mix/snow line. The mid atlantic will experience an all rain event.

Spotty internet acsess so this will be a quick update. After some NE snow, there will be a warm front moving through tonight bringing temps into the 40s for NE and 50s and 60s in the Mid Atlantic. Clear tomorrow with forecast temps above.

New England:
Cold! Highs around 20 this morning with a gusty NW wing ushering really cold air and keeping wind chills below zero for most of the day today and tomorrow morning. Partly cloudy skies.

Mid Atlantic:
Cold! Highs in the upper 30s in VA, lower 30s for southern New Jersey, Delaware, and Eastern Maryland. Northern New Jersey and NYC can expect highs in the upper 20s to around 30. Partly cloudy skies can be expected.

New England

Today will feature partly cloudy skies with highs in the 40s in most of Maine with the exception of the north and the mountains. In the North and Mountains, temps will peak out a little above freezing. In southern NE, 50s can be expected. Gusty NW winds

Mid Atlantic

50s in VA. 40s to around 50 elsewhere. Partly cloudy. Gusty NW winds.

New England:
Today: Mild. Clear skies with only a few scattered clouds. High 45.
Tomorrow: Mild. Am clouds Pm sun. High 40
Tuesday: Much colder with highs around 20. Colder in the North and the Mountains. Sunny area wide.
Wednesday: Even colder. Highs in the teens at the coast and around 10 inland. Sunny across the region.
Thursday: Sunny. Temps rebounding into the mid 20s. Sunny.
Friday: Warmer. Highs around freezing. Mostly cloudy.
Saturday Same temps as Friday. Mostly cloudy as well.

Mid Atlantic:
Today: Mild. Around 70 for a high northward to DC-Baltimore. 50s elsewhere except for a few upper 40s in the far NW. Clear
Tomorrow: Upper 40s N to DC-Baltimore. upper 30s elsewhere. Cloudy in the West a few breaks in the clouds east. Chance for a light snow shower in the far NW.
Tuesday:
Colder. Highs in the mid 30s N to DC-Baltimore. 20s elsewhere. Snow showers for the North with snow showers wrapping south at the coast south to Delaware.
Wednesday:
30s N to southern New Jersey upper 20s elsewhere. Partly cloudy.
Thursday: Upper 40s for VA beach and Delaware. 30s and lower 40s elsewhere. Partly cloudy in the North. Clear in the south.
Friday:
Lower 50s N to DC-Baltimore. lower 40s for New Jersey and upper 30s elsewhere. Clear.
Saturday:
60s for Virginia. upper 40s and lower 50s elsewhere. Cloudy in the far North and Partly cloudy elsewhere.

New England:
Sunny skies with mild temperatures. Highs will reach into the lower 40s north and around 50 south. Winds will be almost nonexistent  with light and variable conditions.

Mid Atlantic:
Clear with temperatures peaking at close to 70 in the far south with 60s north to about the DC-Baltimore area with 50s elsewhere except for a few upper 40s in the far North and west.

TODAY

 New England or Zone 1

Today will feature a chance of rain showers diminishing as the day goes on. Also Winds will be shifting to the north at about 5 mph.

Temperatures will be peaking in the lower 40s in southern sections and  the upper to mid 30s inland.

NY South to DC East to VA Beach Or Zone 2

Clearing faster than Zone 1 however there is still a slight chance for a passing shower in the North of Zone 2 as a weak cold front moves through.

Southern areas ( Richmond to DC to Chesapeake bay to VA beach) will experience  highs in the lower 60s and Northern regions (anything North of there in zone 2) will see highs in the 50s(upper 50s south and lower 50s north)
