Today will feature cloudy skies, seasonable temps, and increasing chances for rain showers as tropical moisture streams north ahead of a developing coastal storm. Look for showers that are already scattered across the region this morning to lift north with a period of mainly dry weather mid/late this morning. As we head into this afternoon, showers will redevelop and increase in coverage and intensity. By sundown, tropical downpours will be fairly common across southern and eastern parts of the area with slightly lighter precip back to the west. Highs will be fairly uniform under light surface flow and cloudy skies. Temps up north will sit right around 60 and temps down south will be right around 65.
Rain continues into tomorrow morning as winds begin to crank. Rain will change to snow at elevation tomorrow with some accumulation (1-3″) expected.
Today will feature more clouds and cooler temps compared to yesterday as high pressure shifts offshore. Look for highs mainly in the 50’s with some lower 60’s in the south. Clear skies this morning will give way to overcast skies by evening as low pressure approaches from the west though precip will remain to our SW through the evening hours.
Yesterday’s cold air damming event put off our Indian Summer for a day but it will arrive in all its glory today. Look for morning clouds and showers to give way to afternoon and evening sunshine with light west/north west breezes. Expect highs to warm right up with a combination of a warm airmass, sunny skies, and downsloping westerly winds. Highs will range from the low 60’s in the mountains where some upslope clouds are possible to near 80 in SW NH where downsloping will be best overlayed with warm air aloft.
Today will feature conditions that vary widely by location. SW NH will feel a lot more like August than October with highs near 80 under mainly sunny skies. Meanwhile for the rest of us, look for highs barely reaching 60 under mainly cloudy skies. The culprit is cold air damming, a phenomenon notorious for robbing our area of warmth. For more on cold air damming (with a winter focus) check out one of my old UpPortland columns. Despite all the clouds, we should stay mainly dry but I can’t rule out a morning or evening shower in the northern mountains, closer to frontal activity well to our NW.
Today will feature morning fog burning off to midday sun followed by afternoon clouds. Look for temps to continue the upward path they’ve been on since Saturday with highs in the north reaching the mid 60’s and those in the south reaching the lower 70’s. Morning fog is a result of clearing skies behind a front that is now to our south. The presence of such fog indicates that after it burns off, sunny skies await (if there were clouds overhead, the fog wouldn’t have formed). Skies will be mainly clear with the exception of SW NH where partly sunny skies will be the rule due to closer proximity to the front. The front begins to drift north this evening and clouds will as well with most of the area seeing at least some partial cloudiness by sundown.
After a chilly couple of days that included the end of the growing season (hard freeze) even along the coast, temps will be rebounding early this week into a classic Indian Summer pattern. Look for highs today to begin that trend with temps rising into the low to mid 60’s north and upper 60’s to low 70’s south. By Tuesday, parts of southern NH and SW ME could see temps up to 80! Skies will be partly to mostly sunny with clouds increasing this evening as a front drifts in our direction.
Today will feature picture perfect Maine October weather. Look for sunny skies, light winds, and cool temps as high pressure sits directly overhead. Highs today will range through the 50’s with the coolest temps in the northern mountains and the warmest temps in SW NH. Enjoy the awesome weather!
Today will feature a classic upslope/downslope pattern in terms of both clouds and temps as the mountains sit under partly to mostly cloudy skies due to upsloping while the coast sees mainly sunny skies due to downsloping. As a result, the mountains will be cooler with highs in the low to mid 50’s. The coast will see slightly warmer temps, in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. NW winds will be breezy today with gusts to 25mph possible.
Today will feature mainly cloudy skies, S/SW breezes, and evening showers as a cold front approaches from the west and eventually crosses the region. Look for highs to be on the cool side with mid 50’s north and low 60’s south. Patchy fog is being reported this morning so watch for areas of reduced visibility on the commute in. Skies will be mostly cloudy but some peeks of sun are possible especially north and especially this morning. Showers should arrive in western areas mid/late this afternoon before departing eastern areas this evening. Everyone is likely to get at least a few drops but due to the lack of available moisture, showers won’t be very long lasting or heavy.
Clearing skies and breezy NW winds are in store for tomorrow behind the front.
Today will feature more of the same weatherwise with clear skies, pleasant temps, and light winds. Look for highs ranging through the 60’s today, coolest north and along the coast. Winds will be light out of the SW and skies will be mainly clear except perhaps for a few late day high clouds that filter in ahead of a cold front due to cross the region with some showers tomorrow.
