Today will feature mainly cloudy skies, cool temps, and the chance for showers. Showers will be most likely across SW part of the area, closer to an upper low spinning over the Indiana-Ohio border. Moisture on the east side of that low is spinning towards us aloft while at the surface, NE winds are helping to lock in dry air. The result will be that plenty of rain will fall but not a lot will make it to the ground. The moisture associated with the low will be moving up and over the low level cold/dry airmass which will result in overrunning precip. Almost everyone will see raindrops at some point today, perhaps with the exception of the northern mountains, however the day will be far from a washout. Southern areas will see the most rain with a quarter to possibly a half inch expected.
Highs will rise into the low to mid 60’s in far NE sections where some breaks of sun are possible. Temps will be cooler farther SW where completely overcast skies are expected with highs in the low to mid 50’s likely there. NE breezes will again be noticeable and that combined with cool temps, cloudy skies, and showery weather will yield a raw feeling to the day. That’s Maine in the fall for ya.
